How an aspiring entrepreneur became a full-stack developer - Prasad’s Journey

Prasad's background

Prasad, 22, was raised in the town of Nasik, Maharashtra. Born into a family of farmers, he always dreamt of becoming an entrepreneur after growing up to support his family. However, life had something else in store for him.

His interest in computers

Till high school, Prasad thought about numerous ideas for setting up his own business. However, on completing class 10th, his father suggested he go for specialization in the world of computers due to the high scope it provides for professionals. He did not want his son to have the same life as he had and hence he motivated Prasad to pursue a diploma in computer technology even before he finished school.

Prasad took his father’s advice seriously and went on with the flow.

Covid-19 and all that followed

In the 3rd year of his course, he founded a small start-up with a friend and took up website design and development projects. It was around this time that he felt that his coding knowledge required massive improvement to produce great results. Prasad and his friend went their separate ways to pursue engineering in computers.

However, things are not as easy as they always seem- the pandemic of Covid-19 hit the entire world and our country went into a nationwide lockdown- which meant that Prasad’s classes took a halt with no clear plan for the coming future.

This left him hanging in a dilemma where he didn’t know what to do.

Coming across Masai School

To pass this phase of extreme uncertainty, Prasad began watching videos on YoutTube to polish his coding skills. He came across an ad about Masai School which showed him that it was still possible to become an ace coder without investing too many years or funds.

He went through the website and the courses that were on offer. Going with his gut, he opted for the Full Stack Web Development program and got in soon. He had nothing to lose; he only had to pay if he ended up getting a job of more than 5 LPA.

The Masai experience

When Prasad joined Masai, he found the schedule to be very difficult to manage. In an attempt to keep up with the set schedule of classes and homework given per week, he tried to follow a 9-9-6 study schedule. This meant dedicating 12 hours per week to studying core concepts, practice problems, or reviewing notes from class daily while spending some time each week focusing on intense learning activities such as tutoring sessions, joining study groups, or doing homework with his batchmates.

He started over from scratch by re-learning HTML, CSS and JavaScript, Python, MongoDB, Mongoose, and ReactJS. He learned data structures and algorithms and solved problems commensurate with his progress which helped maintain motivation.

This course is designed for students who are not familiar with programming languages. There's a progressive level of difficulty and a lot of practice problems to help students develop their problem-solving skills. Masai invests heavily in making sure that every student has access to the faculty team that can answer questions or advises them.

The Placement scenario

After finishing the course offered by Masai, Prasad got placed as a software developer at Taskmo, a successful Bengaluru-based startup. It took him a lot of interviews and a month’s time to be able to crack the interview and find the job of his dreams.

Words of advice

For Prasad, becoming an IT professional was very hard at times. He had struggled with college and didn’t think he would ever get what he wanted out of his experience there. But after his diploma, he decided to join Masai and within a short time, he saw things changing for the better. Now that he is in a much better position and has found the right mindset to grow in his career, he wants to help other ambitious youngsters find their way to a high-growth career at Masai.
